Obituary

George Blaesing, born May 20, 1948, in Toledo, passed away on October 20, 2026.

George lived a full and unmistakable life, marked by service, humor, devotion to family, and a personality that filled every room. A proud veteran and patriot, he first served in the Coast Guard and later in the Air Force. During the Vietnam era, he spent time overseas in Taiwan in combat support. His years in uniform remained an enduring source of pride, and he carried deep respect for his country and lasting friendships with many military companions throughout his life.  George was on the Honor Flight in 2021, a time that he truly cherished. He was also an active member of the American Legion in Sunbury.

Professionally, George devoted 30 years to Huntington Bank before retiring in 2017. He also valued education, attending Franklin University.  He was proud to be the first one in his family to earn a bachelor’s degree. He brought the same determination to his work and studies that he brought to the rest of his life.

To know George was to know someone impossible to overlook. He was loud in the best way, a riot, a jokester, and a fantastic storyteller. He never met a stranger and had a gift for conversation that made people feel welcome almost immediately. He was funny, caring, and memorably chatty, with an ability for giving great directions that became one of the many traits people fondly associated with him. He was also known as the “baby whisperer,” a title that spoke to his warmth and easy way with others.

George’s interests reflected a curious and engaged mind. He enjoyed history, genealogy, weather, music, and reading James Patterson books. He also liked watching crime shows.  He enjoyed eating out at all the local restaurants and talking to the people there.  He had an intense love of all sports, especially THE Ohio State University teams.   These everyday pleasures, like his stories and laughter, became part of the rhythm of a life richly lived.

Above all, George’s children were his pride and joy. He cherished time with his family and took special happiness in being surrounded by those he loved. He is survived by his wife, Jeanne, his partner of 31 years; his sons, Bob Blaesing, Mark Blaesing and his wife Carrie, and Christopher Blaesing; his daughters, Miranda and Brenna Blaesing; his grandsons, Bob and Daniel; his brother, Mike; and several nieces and nephews. His love for family extended warmly and widely, and he especially enjoyed spending time with all of them, including his daughters’ friends, who were part of the circle he welcomed so easily.

George’s affection also reached the animals who shared his life. There is a special shout out reserved for Kitty, who he managed to outlive. He also enjoyed his dogs very much, Otto, Mack, and Abby.

He was preceded in death by his father, Carl Blaesing; his mother, Caryol Blaesing; his brothers Rick Blaesing & David Blaesing; and his sisters, Luann Behnen and Janet Blaesing.

Serving in the US Coast Guard and the US Air Force, George will receive a private veteran burial held at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, 10175 Rawiga Rd, Seville, Ohio 44273.

Friends and family are invited to a visitation and prayer service on Friday November 6 at the American Legion Hall in Sunbury from 4-7.  7pm will start a brief prayer and honor guard ceremony.   Saturday November 7th at 11:30am, a funeral church service will be held at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, Sunbury Ohio.

George Blaesing will be remembered for his patriotism, his laughter, his stories, his generous spirit, and the unmistakable way he made his presence known. His life was one of service, love, and deep pride in the people closest to him, and that memory will remain with all who knew him.

In Lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in his memory made to the Sunbury American Legion Post 457, Otis Street, Sunbury, Ohio 43074.
