Lyle Wesley Lanning, a dedicated block mason and a cherished member of his family and community, passed away on May 1, 2026, in Mount Vernon. Born on March 16, 1965, Lyle’s life was marked by both his commitment to his craft and his genuine affection for the loved ones around him.
Lyle pursued his education with an admirable focus, attending Big Walnut Schools and Delaware Joint Vocational School, where he studied carpentry. This foundation not only shaped his career but also underscored his passion for building and creating with his hands—a true testament to his hardworking nature and dedication.
Beyond his professional life, Lyle was known for his warm and playful spirit. He especially enjoyed engaging with the younger members of his family, where laughter was frequent and the atmosphere was lively. Nerf wars were a common occurrence, highlighting his joyful and spirited approach to life. Additionally, his fondness for remote-controlled AC cars reflected a sense of fun and enthusiasm that endeared him to all who knew him.
Lyle is survived by his four siblings: Lesley Lanning, Lisa (Lanning) Mumaw, Laureen (Lanning) Schoenberger, and Lynnette (Lanning) Columbus. His family circle also includes many nieces and nephews, who carry forward the legacy of his caring and spirited nature.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Linda (Beard) Lanning, whose memory he cherished deeply. Lyle’s life was enriched by the values instilled in him by his parents and the support of his siblings, especially his sister Laureen. He leaves behind a legacy of love and caring that will continue to inspire those who knew him.
