MICHAEL JAY HARTER, a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on May 1, 2025, surrounded by his family after a courageous year-long battle with multiple myeloma. Born on July 26, 1945, in Muncie, Indiana, Michael's journey through life was filled with remarkable experiences, cherished relationships, and an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to know him.

A proud alumnus of Baylor University in Waco, Texas, Michael laid the foundation for a successful career in the finance industry, where he dedicated 25 years of his life as the CEO of ITT Financial before retiring in 1992. His professional achievements were complemented by his love for travel, as his successes allowed him to explore many countries with his beloved wife, Linda Jean Harter, whom he married on December 10, 1966. Their enduring partnership was a testament to love and companionship, providing a vibrant backdrop to the life they built together.

Throughout his life, Michael called many places home. From his roots in Hamilton, Texas, to time spent in Louisiana, Georgia, Florida, and Ohio, he embraced each location with gratitude, filling his life with unique experiences and friendships. He had a tremendous love for animals and was known for his kindness and generosity towards all living beings.

Michael will be deeply missed by his cherished family, which includes his wife, Linda; his daughter, Lori Michelle Ratliff, and her husband Ronald Jr.; his son, Jason Kyle Harter, and his wife Teresa; his dear brother, Steve Harter; his sister, Linda Lee; and a bevy of grandchildren and great-grandchildren who were the pride of his life. He leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and a spirit that touched the hearts of many.

Preceding him in death were his beloved parents, Jim and Jean Harter, who undoubtedly prepared him for the beautiful journey that life would unfold.

Michael Jay Harter’s life reminds us of the importance of being kind, generous, and ever-passionate about the things we love. Though he may no longer walk among us, his memory will forever resonate in the hearts of those he loved and those who loved him in return.
