William E. (Smitty) Smith, age 71, died peacefully at home on March 22, 2026. He is survived by his wife of 51 years Kathleen (Maloney) Smith, children, Stephanie (Sean) Trimble, Heather (Benjamin) Tucker, grandchildren Bradley (Sadie Creech) Smith, Sierra (Cody) Rowe, Andrew Trimble, Lily Tucker, Cathryn Tucker, and great grandchildren Adrian Smith, and Mason Rowe. 

He was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force. Smitty was retired from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Wildlife, was an avid fisherman and a member of the Gahanna Bass Anglers, Ohio Bass Federation and TBF. After retirement he worked for Dick’s Sporting Goods, where he was predominantly positioned in the fishing department. His favorite accomplishment was helping youngsters who wanted to get started and learn to fish.

A celebration of life honoring Smitty will be held at a later date.
